"The Slot" April 15th

This house looks like it may have lost some shingles in last week's windstorm.

The exit ramp.
South of town there's a cutoff into the desert that leads to "The Slot." It's about a 2 mile drive out through a hardpack "road" that ends when you get to the deep crack in the earth.

The last sign of civilization.

Not too sure which way to go so we went left. Turned out to be the right way. Karma.

This is the beginning of our journey. Just hop down into the hole. Sure.

The trusty guide said, "Follow me." What?

Follow you? Into this crack in the earth? OK, why not?

After dropping into the hole it becomes a nice pathway

With spectacular rock formations.

So my guide says, "come on, down here."

Down here? Well it is pretty cool.

"Just jump down this hole." What is this? Alice in Wonderland?

"Come on in, it's lovely down here." OK, why not? I've followed her this far.

So down we go.

"Are ya comin'?"

"Just a bit more."

So into the crack I go. I'm starting to see why it's called The Slot.

We can still see daylight. That's always a good thing.

Keep going........

And going.........

And going.....

And....

Wait, Just in case we don't ever get out of here, let's take a picture.

Before we go down that rabbit hole.

"Come on... follow me." Why not? It's worked for the past 16 years!

"Is that light at the end of the tunnel or is it a train?

Must have been a meteor that hit the earth here.

I claim this to be "Our Hole in The Wall."

Let's hope there's no earthquake.

The path went along and really was beautiful. Just like my trusty guide.

I'm glad we weren't here when this marble rolled into the slot.

Like Where's Waldo.

Steps carved out by the last guy that was stuck down here.

Where in the heck did my guide go?

Just go toward the light.

Follow the light.

Where in the heck is she?

Even this bird's nest is empty.

Follow the light.

What??

Did she go this way?

Or maybe down that hole?

BACK ON TOP OF THE WORLD!!!! Safe and sound.

Hope the car starts.

And back down the road we go. What a great trip.

This is our way out in a few weeks. Surely a motorhome towing a car is OK.

The American Legion Hall just outside Borrego Springs.

You may remember from our January trip to the area. There is "Yard Art" all over the desert.

Very cool stuff.

At the end of the day we joined our fellow camphosts to say good bye to one couple leaving after their winter tour of duty here.

Great people to work with.

And some friends of theirs.
Can't wait to see where we go tomorrow. Disneyland??
